Bristol Street Style: Polka Dot Maxi Skirt

Monday 1 April 2019

Oh beautiful Spring sunshine, you are everything to me! Bristol is always prettier when the sun makes an appearance and I'm always happier when I have my legs out. Fact. I do love my denim skinnies but skirts and dresses are approximately eight times more comfortable. I've been holding onto this little polka dot number for about a month now, and I finally got to wear it last week! Hurrah!

So where have I been? Well, earlier this week I posted an article about the dreamiest trip Sam & I took to the Algarve in Portugal. It was our first time visiting the country which is a bit scandalous considering Sam is part Portuguese (sort of). I wore lots of cute dresses during our time there but since then, my spring/summer wardrobe has been waiting for the temperature to rise in the UK.

2018 - The Year of Doing (ALL the things)

Monday 22 January 2018

Oh hello little space on the internet. My break wasn't an intentional one, sometimes life and fun can get in the way of writing words and documenting daily style.

I made a promise to myself I'd rekindle my love for blogging and share more in 2018. The only thing is, my birthday is shortly after Christmas and the socialising hasn't really stopped, until now. Getting back into the swing of work after a few weeks off has been a chore, which is why I've been protective of my weekends. It's also rained A LOT recently. Why do the downpours only seem to happen on my days off?

We went to Stockholm for my birthday, which was wonderful. It's a real melting pot, the Swedes have a genuine appreciation for art and the locals don't take themselves too seriously. Fika is also my new favourite thing. When I spent time in Copenhagen, I noticed the stylish locals mostly wore black and grey, but in Stockholm they embrace colour and kooky style. I'm hoping to write a post about it, but I said that about the Canadian Rockies and four months later, that still hasn't happened... Sorry Amy.

UNIF Frost Sweater Alternative

Tuesday 24 October 2017

If like me you've wanted a UNIF Frost Sweater since forever, but you aren't prepared to pay extortionate custom fees, fear not because I've found an alternative! At a mere £24.99, this Missguided pink multi stripe jumper is a fantastic dupe.

So it's not exactly the same, but it's definitely warmer and has a very enjoyable oversized fit. This jumper has completely sold out on the Missguided site but I managed to snag one from ASOS! I wanted to size up but they only had a 10 in stock so I just went for it and HUZZAH, it wasn't made for ants, so actually fits me.

M&S Holiday Shop SS17 + Giveaway!

Thursday 3 August 2017

I'm happiest when on a beach or at a sample sale. Fact. I love going on holiday in the beautiful sunshine but often struggle to find the perfect swimwear. I have a few pieces I've kept for years but since I went up a size recently, I wasn't feeling confident in them anymore.

The team at M&S have launched a new holiday shop for 2017 and it's all about celebrating yourself and feeling your best! They want women to choose flattering styles that make them feel extraordinary. Everyone knows M&S have an awesome lingerie section, but that also extends to swimwear.

As part of this campaign, they sent me a hamper of holiday shop goodies to style. When my package arrived in a beautiful large shopper bag, I couldn't be more excited! Inside I found two bikinis and two beautiful swimwear cover-ups.... SQUEE.

Oasis Maxi Dress: Bristol Street Style

Tuesday 25 July 2017

Do you love re-discovering old pieces of clothing as much as me? Granted, I can no longer fit into 50% of my wardrobe (those people who say you'll gain weight once you're married are right) but every now and again I'll find an old gem in my closet!

After working in retail for a long time, I've accumulated a lot of clothes. I'm going to do a car boot sale soon because my wardrobe is bursting at the seams! Sadly I know I'll only get a couple of quid for my expensive frocks and jeans, but I'd rather they go to a good home than sit gathering dust.

Another Zara Smock Dress

Friday 14 July 2017

A few days ago I saw a tweet from a fellow blogger that made me chuckle - "Remember when outfit of the day posts were outfits people actually wore that day." Ah yes, the glory days. Today's post features an outfit I actually wore to work yesterday. It might look familiar because my last style post features the red version but it makes me happy, so YOLO.

On that note, I'm feeling inspired again so huge thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post about why I took a blogging break! I wanted embrace the old school blogging vibes so we shot this in my favourite street style location, by my trusty train. Bristol harbour was bustling with tourists and two mature women were in fits of giggles watching me pose. UM, WHATEVER ladies, your laughter only feeds my fabulousness.

Zara Oversized Gingham Dress

Six weeks later... Okay guys, I have ALL the excuses to explain my absence! Busy work life, busy social life, a broken laptop and generally feeling a little uninspired but I am BACK. I definitely didn't intend to take a blogging break. I work with awesome influencers on a daily basis so sometimes blogging can feel like homework, especially when your 9-5 means you have to be invested in the numbers and stats.

I've decided to mentally separate my personal blog from my day job and just post whatever I fancy posting, because I fancy sharing it. Basically, random outfits (because generally, those are the kind of posts I enjoy reading most and this is a fashion blog). Working with professional influencers is extremely inspiring and darn right fun, but comparison is the thief of joy and sometimes it's impossible not to feel like a small fish in a HUGE ocean.

Matalan Stripe Bardot Blouse

Sunday 30 April 2017

When it comes to high street brands, Matalan are killing it right now! I've always enjoyed browsing my local store and would occasionally find the odd thing I like, but as of late, I've been making purchase after purchase.

This season I'm all about the bardot top and this particular stripe bardot blouse, is my absolute fave. I just adore the three quarter sleeves with wide frill cuffs and party at the back. Isn't it cute? It's also an absolute steal at only £16.

There she goes, the blazer girl. That's my new mission at work, to become known as the blazer girl. I always used to be the hat girl (not a title I wish to give up) but over the past few weeks I've purchased 6 new blazers. Uh...Whoops? I've been looking for a way to spruce up my work outfits and since I have a huge, recently purchased wardrobe and some extra hanging space, I figured I'd buy some new (to me) jackets!

If I'm being honest, I actually bought this Oasis nautical long jacket a few months ago in the sale and it isn't one of the 6 newbies. Oasis jackets are my favourite, they have a great fit and last for years. I managed to score 3 on eBay for next to nothing!

Womens Black Levi's Sherpa Jacket

Friday 20 January 2017

After watching Stranger Things, I got it into my head that I wanted a black Levi's Sherpa jacket. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one for women, so decided to live vicariously through Sam by buying him the men's version. Lucky guy, right? I still wanted to embrace my inner Nancy Wheeler so ended up buying a high street version which I rarely wore, because my heart just wasn't in it.

Fast forward six months and I've finally managed to get my paws on this Levi's denim jacket, complete with Sherpa lining! Good things really do come to those who wait because I even got it on sale. A complete bargain at just £55 instead of £110.

SS17: Melinda Maria at Jewelstreet

Is it spring yet? Okay, so I know it's *technically* still winter and if I'm being honest, this is the coldest it's been in months, but I am absolutely ready for spring. Yes, I do enjoy a muted wardrobe during the colder months, but January can be depressing and one sure way to keep chipper is to embrace colour. Who needs beautiful sunshine and sand between your toes when you're wearing a cheery yellow ribbed bardot jumper, am I right!? A-hem.

Another way to counteract the January blues is by wearing sparkles. Sometimes if I know I'm going to have a particularly challenging or difficult day at work, I'll pop on one of my favourite pieces of jewellery in the morning. Whenever I need an instant pick me up during the day, I'll just fiddle with my sentimental piece for a few seconds and I'll feel better - like it's a talisman. Does this trick work for anyone else?

Bristol Street Style: Dr. Martens

Wednesday 11 January 2017

Happy hump day! Today I'm back with another Bristol street style post. I prefer taking outfit posts when I'm out and about rather than indoors, but unfortunately the weather doesn't always play ball. Thankfully, the rain held off long enough to grab some quick shots by the harbourside. As mentioned previously, I was pretty much spoilt at Christmas and on my Birthday, so I have lots of new items to feature.

This ridiculously soft coat is another Unreal Fur beauty, gifted to me by a favourite. The Milky Way Coat has a gorgeous grey & black shaved effect. I really like the textured look and how good it feels on - it's even softer than my others! I'm wearing the XS but it definitely fits more like a small. Unreal Fur is *possibly* my third favourite brand of all time. If you're interested, you can find out more about the designer in one of our old posts.

Autumn/Winter Style: Zara Lace Midi

Sunday 8 January 2017

So, I don't know about you guys but I have shopped non-stop for the past 2 weeks. The sales have been amazing, and I was given lots of gift cards and some cash for Christmas/my birthday. People think having a birthday in January must be awful but it really isn't... I get the best presents! I was well and truly spoilt this year and scooped up some fantastic pieces during further reductions.

After complaining my local Zara store's sale was weak, I managed to score this black lace midi dress for just £13. What a bargain.

AW16 Trend Watch: The Military Jacket

Monday 21 November 2016

One of the autumn/winter trends I'm most into this year is military inspired outerwear. The London catwalks were giving off huge military vibes at the beginning of the year, with capes and wool double-breasted jackets from Mulberry, to oversized military bomber jackets from Topshop. As fashion comes in cycles, I remember loving this trend the first time around... I wanted nothing more than a red military (or band) jacket. Sadly the perfect one sold out (and I often still search for it on eBay), but when I spotted this navy version from Joanna Hope at JD Williams, I knew this was my second chance at embracing this trend.

JD Williams wasn't a brand I was previously familiar with, I think initially they were targeting an older audience, however they have so many stylish, on trend pieces - they are clearly now trying to encourage a younger customer. They have an array of sequin numbers - ideal for party season - and an epic outerwear range

Military Style Jacket Review

Jacket: Joanna Hope via JD Williams (c/o) - Dress: New Look - Tights: Wolford

This jacket is extremely versatile. It looks great with a basic tee, jeans and boots but at the weekend I wore it with a velour dress, black courts and statement Wolford tights (as seen on Katy Perry in her Killer Queen perfume imagery). I'm wearing the size 10 which still has room for layering. I've seen so many similar jackets on the high street but none of them compare to this one. The embroidery makes it that much more special, it's of higher quality and has a designer feel to it. If you're considering buying a jacket like this yourself, I recommend avoiding the mass produced versions you might find if you spend a bit less, because it's all about cost per wear. Am I right!?

I'm now looking for a longer military coat to keep me warm in the colder months ahead. Ideally it'll be khaki green, made from wool with loads of buttons. If you see anything, please let me know!

What's your favourite trend this season? Would you wear a military jacket?

McArthurGlen & Brooks Brothers: The Iconic White Shirt

Wednesday 2 November 2016

A few weeks ago, I took a trip to my local McArthurGlen designer outlet to take part in an exciting blogger challenge! To tie in with the launch of Brooks Brothers' White Shirt bar, which toured the country in a six-wheeler American truck, I was given the task of styling one of their classic white shirts.

How do I usually wear a white shirt? With jeans, a fedora and some trainers. Standard. However, I wanted to think outside of the box and try something new for this challenge, so promised myself I'd be open minded while scouring the stores. I was armed with a gift card, selfie stick, snacks (for energy) and a swish notebook. Everything a woman needs for a successful shopping day.

The White Shirt bar was launched by Millie Mackintosh, who styled her own Brooks Brothers shirt with black skinnies. Of course the key ingredient to an effortless, white shirt ensemble is the perfect crisp shirt. I own 3 white shirts but none compare to the quality of this american classic. The brand is renown for high quality and timeless designs, was established in 1818 and has been worn by some of the most iconic people in history - from Roosevelt to Bristol's own Cary Grant!

Halloween With New Look - Scary Vs Chic!

Monday 24 October 2016

Halloween is just around the corner, so it was with wicked glee that we accepted the New Look Halloween Scary vs Chic challenge. NL have put together a fab collection of everyday pieces that can be whipped up into a Halloween look that you can break down and rewear after the big day, saving you spending out on a 'costume' you'll only wear once a year - genius. Check out this video on their blog for more Halloween ideas and for tips on styling bits up into Harley Quinn, Black Swan and Scream Queens looks amongst others. It's SO good, we were really surprised to see which pieces had been used!

Anyhoo, back to Scary vs Chic. I took Scary, being au fait with an eyeliner and partial to pvc, and picked out the Black Basic Witches Short Sleeve T-shirt (£7.99) and the Black Patent A-Line Skirt (£19.99), to channel my favourite witches from The Craft and American Horror Story - Coven! A lot of eyeshadow and Posh Spice/Wanda Maximoff finger wiggling later, and we have a pretty decent Halloween party look! It would also look really cute with a white shirt under the tee and some over the knee socks and heels, if you really wanted to go full Neve Campbell post superspell makeover.

Iron Fist My Little Pony Blouse With Spoiled Brat

So it's been a while, but I've been busy becoming MRS EGERTON! ;)

Anyhoo, despite being all grown up and married and such like, I still enjoy a bit of childhood nostalgia combined with some good old fashion fun so one of my first assignments post-single lady life is to show you this fab Iron Fist My Little Pony blouse from Spoiled Brat (£43.99). I've always liked a bit of Iron Fist, it's a fun brand and some of the designs they come out with are just inspired, with this blouse definitely planting it's hooves in that category! The colours are just amazing, so bright and cheery, and the pattern is of course, delightful. If you're a die hard Brony like me (I have a collection of Rainbow Dash dolls and watch Friendship Is Magic whenever I can), you have to have this. Everypony (yes I wore it to work!) who sees it can't help but get excited by the colours and the memories it brings on! The material is a slinky chiffon, but not too see through as you can see here because I only have a nude bra on underneath and it's invisible. You can't fault Iron Fist quality, it continues to be strong and worth every penny. I kept it simple here and paired it with double denim and pastel DM's, but it would look pretty darn cute tucked into a little A-Line skirt and some ankle boots if you prefer a girlier look. If you're looking for sizing info, I'm a UK12 and this is a size L. I probably could've swung the M but I'm a terror for sizing up and this is comfortable for me.

Sugarhill Boutique AW16: Lilly Cocoon Cardi

English weather is a strange thing. This week started off very HOT and ended with a bit of a chill in the air. Autumn is coming. Although I'm not quite ready to give up the mild temperatures just yet, I am ready to embrace autumn clothing. Hello knitwear!

I'm secretly excited about woolly hats, scarves and jumpers... I've already started thinking about new boots, winter coats and layers. Lots of layers. This past weekend was a mixture of sunny spells and a cool breeze, so I decided to ease myself into autumn with this snuggly Lilly Cocoon Cardigan from Sugarhill Boutique.
